Welcome to the Medico-legal report Writers’ Network

We are an informal collaboration of professionals aiming to be an inclusive community of practice sharing good practice and identifying useful resources to support high quality medico-legal reports for cases in the Immigration and Asylum Chamber. Where relevant, we use the Istanbul Protocol, the global standard for the effective investigation and documentation of torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.

The MLR Writers’ Network came into being at the 2023 conference for medico-legal report (MLR) writers from the UK and Ireland. Members from the six main organisations in this field in these countries and an independent MLR writer formed a planning group and organised the conference, which was held at the Royal College of Physicians, London, on 19 October. We have helld annual conferences since.

We have approximately monthly virtual CPD sessions and our hybrid in-person and online conference is held each autumn.
