Welcome to the Medico-legal report Writers’ Network

We are an informal collaboration of professionals, committed to maintaining high quality Istanbul Protocol-compliant medico-legal reports.

The MLR Writers’ Network came into being at the 2023 conference for medico-legal report (MLR) writers from the UK and Ireland. Members from the six main organisations in this field in these countries and an independent MLR writer formed a planning group and organised the conference, which was held at the Royal College of Physicians, London, on 19 October.

We aim to be an inclusive community of practice sharing good practice and identifying useful resources to support high quality medico-legal reports based on the Istanbul Protocol (the global standard for the effective investigation and documentation of torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment).
